Hello, thank you for your message!
The new Cosmetics Act came into force on February 1, 2005
Finnish legislation regarding cosmetics has been reformed. The new Cosmetics Act (22/2005) came into force on February 1, 2005. The Finnish Consumer Agency, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Trade and Industry, supervises this legislation in Finland.
Testing the ingredients in cosmetics on animals
The testing of cosmetics products on animals has been banned since September 11, 2004. In practice this means that animal testing has not been carried out on products for many years.
The testing of ingredients in cosmetics products on animals will be banned as and when new, alternative methods are developed. These bans will come into force on March 11, 2009 or March 11, 2013 depending on the nature of the test.
Testing and product safety
The quality of our products is tested at all stages of R&D. The effect, functionality and safety of our products are ensured by in-house testing and testing carried out in independent, external cosmetics laboratories. We work in continuous, close co-operation with dermatologists and toxicologists.
Our products are not tested on animals. Alternative methods are used for ensuring the safety of our products.
We use only pure, researched and high-quality materials in our products. Our quality requirements and quality assurance also include the operations of our raw material suppliers. We give priority to suppliers of raw materials and packaging material that have certified quality systems.
We use vegetable-based, biodegradable cosmetics raw materials, which we do not test on animals, in our cosmetics products.
Testing raw materials on animals
The fact of the matter is that even today there are still areas of testing which have no essential validated testing methods that offer an alternative to animal testing. As is the case in the cosmetics industry in general we may also, as an exception, use raw materials that have been tested on animals if there are no alternative safe raw materials available that have been tested using other methods.
However, we always use raw materials that have been tested with alternative methods, if they are available. Raw materials suppliers offer more and more raw materials that have been tested with alternative methods and we will naturally choose to use these in preference to any others. We also actively try to find more alternative raw materials.
